He was smarter than the average bear...
'Tis a sad day for cartoon cavemen, oddly intelligent cats and of course, the brawling duo that inspired Itchy & Scratchy.
Joe Barbera, co-creator of The Flinstones, Top Cat, Tom & Jerry and Yogi Bear, amongst other much-loved cartoons, has died age 95. He was one half of the famous Hanna-Barbera team o which he was the main cartoonist. William Hanna had once said of his work partner, "he has the ability to capture mood and expression in a quick sketch better than anyone I've ever known".
Jeeesh. 95's a grand old age to live to. I have to say Yogi Bear was probably my favourite of theirs. Still reminds me of the grainy old VHS tapes we probably still have in the shed. So, as a fitting tribute to his creator, here's a link where you can hear the theme tune.
